Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 May 2026
Find the Brand ("the App", "we") is operated by Pascal Peltriaux as an individual developer. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights. Contact: ppeltriaux@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Photos you scan — sent to our backend and to Anthropic for identification. Not retained on the backend after the response is returned.
- Approximate location (city, country, lat/long) when you grant permission, attached to each scan.
- Apple Sign In data — the first name, last name, and Apple-issued user identifier provided by Apple on first sign-in. Stored locally on your device.
- Push token — an Expo push token tied to your install, stored on our backend so we can deliver watchlist alerts.
- Scan metadata — brand, product, category, price estimates, timestamps. Stored locally on your device, with watchlist subscriptions also held server-side.
Third parties we share data with
- Anthropic — receives the photo of the scanned item to perform identification (privacy policy).
- eBay — receives the brand and product name to look up market prices (privacy policy).
- Expo (Push) — delivery channel for notifications (privacy policy).
- Apple — App Store and Sign in with Apple (privacy policy).
Where data lives
Watchlist subscriptions and push tokens live on our server (findthebrand.mothergroups.com) hosted in Australia. Photos are not retained on our server. Scan history is stored on your device only.
Retention
Watchlist subscriptions remain until you remove them. If you delete the App, your local scan history is removed; subscriptions on the server are pruned the next time the App detects they are orphaned, or after 90 days of inactivity, whichever is sooner.
Your rights
You can:
- Delete any scan in the App, which also removes the associated watchlist subscription.
- Revoke camera, location, photo library, and notification permissions in iOS Settings.
- Revoke Sign in with Apple at Settings → Apple ID → Sign in with Apple.
- Email ppeltriaux@gmail.com to request export or deletion of all server-side data tied to your device.
Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
We will update this policy when we add features that change what is collected. The "Last updated" date above will reflect any change.
